Day of the Girl with A thousand splendid suns

Reading through the tweets on this day, I too wanted to tweet something wishing my fellow females. While thinking about what to write, from some corner of mind the name ‘Mariam’ popped up. And I thought she needs a place in my blog too!
She is my favourite character from a soul touching book called ‘Thousand Splendid Suns’ by Khaled Hosseini. So, why is Mariam so close to me? Why is an Afghan fictional character who did speak for so many of silenced women clothed in light shade of blue create a little crease in my heart? Here is why.

Mariam faced adversity with strength that all we women are gifted with. But seldom realise.

Mariam was a selfless female filled with compassion like many of us!

Mariam was one with astonishing determination rarely used to defend! Like us!

Finally, Mariam did become the protecting mother to Laila and surprised the readers when she lowered her weapon into Rasheed’s flesh! We all too have that mother in us who can go to extremes to safeguard our loved ones.

This International Girl Child Day let’s take a moment to wink at our selves and pat our own backs!

Can’t end this without quoting from the book. “Like a compass needle that points north, a man’s accusing finger always finds a woman. Always.”
